Crohn's colitis and ileorectal anastomosis

چکیده

The marine bacterium Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a known cause of gastroenteritis from seafoods, especially abroad,1011 also occurs in British coastal waters12-though only one incident traced to home-produced crabmeat has been reported.13 The vibrio is often present in imported crustacea, especially shrimps and prawns from the Far East, and these have been reponsible for some recent incidents.14 Though this organism may multiply rapidly, even at low temperatures, it is fully sensitive to heat: as with most microbial pathogens control thus lies in sound hygienic practice during and after processing. The consumption of any food raw inevitably carries some risks to health, and shellfish are no exception. Adequate heat treatment would, however, overcome most of them. Perhaps further education in cooking and eating these interesting foods is needed-who's for oyster or mussel pie ?

A reappraisal of the ileo-rectal anastomosis in ulcerative colitis.

Colectomy is still frequently required in the care of ulcerative colitis. The most common indications are either non-responding colitis in the emergency setting, chronic active disease, steroid-dependent disease or neoplastic change like dysplasia or cancer. Assessment of anorectal function in selection of patients for ileorectal anastomosis in Crohn's colitis.

Anorectal function has been assessed in 53 patients with Crohn's disease by measurement of resting and squeeze anal canal pressures and the maximum volume tolerated during distension of a balloon in the rectum. Radiographs of the rectum from barium enema examination were also reviewed to assess rectal capacity. Thirty-three patients have had a colectomy and ileorectal anastomosis for Crohn's co...

Ileo-rectal anastomosis for Crohn's disease of the colon.

Twenty-six cases of Crohn's disease of the colon treated by total colectomy and ileorectal anastomosis have been examined. Recurrent disease at the anastomosis occurred in 50% of patients, three-quarters of these within 18 months and the latest six years after operation. Patients with disease apparent only in the colon at the primary operation developed ileal recurrence at the anastomosis as co...

The results of ileorectal anastomosis at St Mark's Hospital from 1953 to 1968.

The popular view of ileorectal anastomosis for ulcerative colitis as an operation of above average mortality and morbidity is supported by the results of this series. Great care must be taken to differentiate ulcerative colitis from Crohn's disease of the colon, as it is clear from consideration of their clinical course that they are different disease entities with a different prognosis. It is ...
